Class Struggles in Enfield

Originally printed in Freedom 7010

Freedom interviews one of the workers active in the occupation and picket of the Visteon factory in Enfield.

Workers at the car parts manufacturing plants in Enfield, Basildon and Belfast won a seven week battle against Visteon UK, (and their former employer's Ford), after they were sacked without notice when the company went bust. In what was a monumental victory against car giants Ford, whom the workers were still contracted to, they are now receiving a proper redundancy package. We talk to Vijay, one of those active in the campaign over the past two months.

Visteon benefit gig

Report from occupied car-part factory in North London

As the debate on the crisis got physical in central London this Wednesday, facing redundancy with slashed severance pay, hero’s working for Visteon producing car parts occupied their workplace! March 28th: Putting People First – Militantly

At our national conference L&S decided to endorse the Militant Workers Block on the basis of its callout (see appendix). We were happy that the loose group of London libertarians the callout came from, and that some of us are part of, hand met our request to make the language broad enough to include all people in favour of workers’ direct action against the crisis – specifically the IWW. Once the rest of our union had also endorsed the event we set about making sure we had the best possible impact on the day itself.
