The first few months
Liberty and Solidarity has had a busy few months since its founding conference in September. Having created our constitution and formulated our key strategies we have set about getting involved in community and workplace politics across the country. In Glasgow our members have been heavily involved in the Burgh Angel community newspaper, whilst in London our activists have been working within London Coalition Against Poverty, including helping with preparations for its housing campaign road-show. We've also been active within the IWW union nationally, both helping the union to organise within the health sector and helping win key democratic reforms within the union itself.
In Reading our members have helped win a massive victory against the council, having forced them to give legal land for a new community garden and in the West Midlands our members have been helping to implement our industrial strategy through building the IWW locally. We've also been key to the publishing of the UK's anarchist newspaper, Freedom, and have assisted in reorganising its bookshop in London.
Over the next year L&S hopes to build on our current work, we intend to aid the IWW in establishing an Industrial Union in the healthcare sector, as well as fighting for further reform and international expansion. On the community front we aim to help organise ever larger sections of working class communities into fighting, democratic organisations.
In summary, it has been an active first few months for L&S, and we look set to build on our progress, developing our organisation and increasing its effectiveness. 2008 has allowed us to test our democratic structures, which have proved effective, 2009 will afford us an opportunity to implement our collective strategies.
