Hackney Heckled
Hackney Heckler - new quarterly libertarian, working class (etc etc…) free paper launched in Hackney. The Heckler is the paper of Hackney Solidarity Network (HSN), which has been running since January 2008 following a post Anarchist Bookfair meeting in Dalston attended by members of Hackney Independent, London Coalition Against Poverty and London Catholic Worker.
HSN is a developing network of libertarian political groups, environmentalists, tenant activists, trade unionists and community campaigners which aims to put like-minded militants in contact with each other for mutual info-sharing and support. It is affiliated to the Radical London project, which in turn aims to provide a London-wide network for local anarchist and libertarian groups.
The first issue of the Hackney Heckler contains articles about the Woodberry Down housing scandal, the Sam Hallam Campaign, Hackney TUC's campaign against the BNP, the witchhunt against Hackney Unison branch officers, news from the local RMT Overground dispute, a wide list of local contacts and, best of all, a spread on top ten tunes about Hackney, complete with ‘controversial’ Girls Aloud pics.
3000 copies of the A3 4-pager were printed and distributed in little over a fortnight, most being taken by HSN activists for distribution on their estates, others handed out in the street or left in local cafes.
The next issue is being planned for January, with a larger print run of 5-6000. It is hoped that the paper will not only make life uncomfortable for Hackney Council et al, but also act as a rallying point for political and community activists in the borough and further encourage joint-working.
